THE ROSARY

Rosary BeadsThe Rosary helps us to deepen our faith by meditating on the life, passion, death, and resurrection of Christ. Back in the 12th century many people could not read and did not know Latin. So, Benedictine priests recommended that they say 150 Hail Mary’s to substitute for the 150 psalms of the Divine Office. In 1208 St. Dominic instituted devotion to the Rosary when Mary promised to him that the Rosary would help convert sinners and obtain favors for the just. In 2002, St. Pope John Paul II added the mysteries of Christ’s public ministry so the Rosary could become more fully a “compendium of the Gospel”.

When we say the Rosary, “we go through the Lord’s life
on the hand of the Blessed Mother”.
